Maranatha Christian Reformed Church is part of a larger denomination
made up of approximately 300,000 members and over 1000 congregations
across the United States and Canada. Our denomination’s name
is the Christian Reformed Church in North America. This denomination
officially started in 1857 and Maranatha Church became an organized
congregation in 1958.
Our name “ Maranatha Christian Reformed Church ” means:
Maranatha- Lord come quickly! We are a collection
of people that eagerly anticipate the return of Christ.
Christian- identifies that we belong to Christ
and we want to live for Him.
Reformed- our theology or our distinct beliefs.
This is what makes us unique from the “Maranatha Christian
Baptist Church,” for example. Both are Christian, but have
distinctions from each other. Much of our reformed beliefs have
roots to the 16th Century reformer John Calvin.
Church- we are a collection of people that God
has called together. It is not the building that is the church,
but the people that God has called into fellowship that make up
his church.
